Pak-Afghan Transit Trade Agreement challenged in LHC
The Pakistan Afghanistan Transit Trade Agreement has been challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
A petition has been filed by LHC advocate, Shafqat Mehmood Chouhan, who claims the agreement is a violation of article 2-A of the constitution.
He argued that the agreement does not allow Pakistan to monitor goods passing through its soil. The petitioner noted that in a country already facing terrorism, transfer of illegal goods can create more problems.
Chouhan has termed the agreement unconstitutional, noting that it was not discussed on the floor of the National Assembly.
Earlier this week, the trade ministry clarified that the routes Afghan trucks will take in Pakistan are still being determined and the accord will be signed after all formalities are complete.
