Express April 06, 2010

WASHINGTON: The United States is expected to impose a 16-million-dollar fine against Japanese auto giant Toyota for its failure to notify authorities about vehicle safety problems

US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement that Toyota failed to live up to its legal obligations by failing to notify about its safety defects.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has also blamed Toyota for failing to report the dangerous defect, despite knowing of the potential risk to consumers.
