Fourth chapter of British Alumni Association opens up in Jamshoro

The association is already working in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

HYDERABAD:
The fourth chapter of the British Alumni Association was inaugurated at the house of the vice chancellor of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) on Saturday evening in Jamshoro.

Other chapters of the association are already working in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. The British Council formed the association in 2003 to foster interaction among the British alumni in Pakistan. It aims to promote education as well as the welfare of its members.

According to Prof. Suhail Ahmed Soomro of MUET, an ad-hoc committee was formed to make the bylaws of the alumni association. Out of a total of seven members, six are from MUET and one is from Sindh University. “Later, we will have an elected committee to steer the objectives,” said Soomro. Dr Asadullah Qazi, the chairman of Isra University, expressed hope that the British Council will also sponsor a similar venture at his university. “I also request them to help us get a piece of land in Jamshoro and build a model campus of over 4,000 square metres for Isra,” he said.

The vice chancellors of Sindh University, Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering Science and Technology, alumni and retired teachers attended the ceremony. The programme started in the evening and ended with a Sufi music at night. However, not all of Sindh’s universities, including Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), were represented at the event.
