Paediatric health: Intensive care unit for children openned

Law minister says govt soon to set up a new medical college.

FAISALABAD:

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday inaugurated a paediatric intensive care unit at the Faislabad district headquarters (DHQ) hospital.

The Paed ICU has been set up under a public-private partnership at a cost of Rs15 million.

Dr Hira Ayesha, the Children Ward in charge, briefed the minister on the facilities available at the ICU. She said the ventilator machines available at the facility were the first of their kind in the country. She said the machines had been imported with assistance from the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association and the Association of Pakistani Physicians in North America.

Dr Ayesha said ultrasound, baby warmer, nebuliser, neonatal oxygen and air compressor system and diagnostic facilities were also available.

The law minister praised the organisations and the people who had contributed funds for the construction of the unit and said that he hoped medical facilities at the DHQ hospital would be further improved with philanthropists’ cooperation.

He said the ICU would provide treatment facilities for newborns using the most advance medical technology.

He urged the doctors to educate people visiting the hospital about the importance of family planning and preventive health.

He said rapid growth in population was partially to blame for the energy crisis, poor health and education facilities and unemployment in the country. He said family planning practices should be promoted so that adequate services could be provided to the people.

He said the chief minister had approved setting up of another medical college in the city.

He said the project would be completed under a public private partnership.

He said a proposal to improve the salary-package of nurses was already under consideration.
