Helping hand: CM distributes rickshaws

The govt will also provide infrastructure to the people.

KARACHI:
The chief minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, distributed around 30 CNG rickshaws to the residents of Lyari on Monday and said that more will be distributed soon.

A distribution ceremony was held at the Chief Minister House on Monday during which the rickshaws were given away. Shah said that the residents of Lyari were the first ones to benefit from the distribution of the vehicles. He added that its inhabitants had made great sacrifices for restoration democracy in the country. During last year, an amount of Rs800 million was spent on infrastructure development projects in Lyari such the construction of roads, provision of sweet drinking water as well as lighting. The chief minister said that the same amount has been allocated to the development work in the area for this year.


The president, Asif Ali Zardari, has directed the chief minister to improve the quality of education in Lyari. So far, a medical college has been established there and the first batch of students will appear for their annual examination soon. Shah said that a quota on admissions had been placed for students from Lyari, Malir, Keamari and Ibrahim Hydri.
