Unfair appointment: Govt accused of leaking test papers

Some candidates were seen answering questions despite the fact that the question paper had not been handed out.

GILGIT:

Candidates gathered for an exam to qualify for government jobs demonstrated against the authorities for leaking question papers to selected candidates on Monday.

They blocked Raja Bazaar Road and burnt tyres, disrupting traffic. The trouble began when more than 3,000 candidates, who had gathered at the Government High School to take a qualifying test for four posts at the governor house, rose to their feet to protest against a two-hour delay. The test scheduled for 10am began at midday. “While we were waiting for the test to start, we saw some candidates answering questions despite the fact none of us had received the exam,” said Jehangir Khan, a candidate. “We came to the conclusion that the paper had been leaked to enable them to qualify for the jobs.

It was just a drama staged by the authorities to give an impression of fair selection,” said Imtiaz Ali, another candidate. “The selection has already been made, I believe.” Concluding that the test was just a formality and the selection had already been made, the candidates turned violent and chanted slogans against the government, forcing the authorities to postpone the test for an indefinite period.
