Mulberry count: CDA steadfast in reducing pollen
CDA has removed 15,236 paper mulberry trees from urban areas in the last five years
ISLAMABAD:
To control pollen, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has removed 15,236 paper mulberry trees from urban areas in the last five years, a senior CDA official told media on Sunday. Approximately 1,634 male paper mulberry trees contributing to the overall pollen count in the city’s urban areas are still growing, which will be removed in phases during the next three years to avoid loss of green cover, he said. The trees will be replaced with environmental friendly, indigenous trees such as Amaltas, Kachnar, Jaman and Chir. He said that in Islamabad Capital Territory, approximately 60,000 paper mulberry trees are still growing, particularly in National Park Area where removal of any tree is prohibited due to legal coverage under Wildlife Ordinance, 1979.
