Justice Delayed: Rape victim threatens self-immolation

The girl said the accused was pressuring his family to ‘settle’ the complaint.

FAISALABAD: A rape victim on Saturday threatened self-immolation in front of the Chief Minister’s House over the release of her rapist. “I was raped by on November 16, when I went out to bring fodder for cattle”, she alleged. She said Kamalia police had registered a case and arrested the accused, but later he was released due to his political clout. She said the station house officer, Abdul Majeed Gujjar, and an assistant sub inspector had declared the rapist innocent after taking Rs 0.15 million in bribe.  “DSP Waris Bharwana investigated my case again and declared Qalbe Ali guilty, taking into account my medical report”, the girl said.  The girl said the accused was pressuring his family to ‘settle’ the complaint.
