Protesters accused the traffic wardens of issuing tickets unfairly

Hundreds of rickshaw drivers on Saturday staged a protest against the suicide of a colleagueafter he was issued a traffic ticket  by a warden on Friday. 


Agriculture University Road remained blocked for hours due to the protest organised by the Rickshaw Drivers’ Association.


The protesters accused the traffic wardens of issuing tickets unfairly to the rickshaw drivers “to impress higher-ups”.

On the occasion, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Sardar Asif Khan assured the rickshaw owners that an inquiry was already underway. “If found guilty the warden involved in the incident will be punished”, the CTO assured the protesters.

Earlier, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Aftab Ahmad Cheema visited the bereaved family and delivered a cheque for Rs 25,000 to them on behalf of the police department.
