Talat Pasha appointed VC

Senior dean takes over at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.

The Punjab government on Saturday notified the appointment of Prof Talat Naseer Pasha as vice chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, for a term of four years.


Prof Pasha, who has served five times as acting vice chancellor, was the most senior dean at the university with over 30 years of experience in teaching, research and administration. He was also on the university’s syndicate. He holds a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, an MSc degree in nutrition, and a PhD in animal nutrition from West Virginia University, USA.

Prof Pasha developed the PC-I (project digest) for UVAS and was its first registrar. He published 70 research papers in international scientific journals.

He has also presented papers at national and international conferences.

He was selected for the HEC Best University Teacher Award in 2009 and ‘Professional Development Training for Higher Education Leaders of Pakistan’ in March 2011 in the UK. He has won 12 research grants and is currently conducting two research projects.

Prof Pasha is a member of the Advanced Studies Research Board of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad; a member of the Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Government College University, Lahore; a member of the Punjab Agricultural Research Board Executive Committee; a fellow of the Animal Nutrition Society of India; a member of the International Buffalo Federation, Italy; a former president of the Asian Buffalo Association; and a member of the editorial boards of three international journals.

He has also worked as a consultant for the German non-governmental organisation GTZ, the Livestock and Dairy Development Board, the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority, the US Grain Council, the International Development and Research Council in Canada and the World Bank.
