Departure not linked to memogate: Khosa

Shujaat adds reassurances that Zardari won’t resign.

LAHORE:
There is no link between President Asif Ali Zardari’s departure to Dubai and the memogate scandal, Governor of Punjab Sardar Latif Khan Khosa said categorically on Thursday, adding that rumours must be stopped as the country could not face any political unrest at this point.

Khosa was speaking to the media at the foundation-laying ceremony of a hospital for the lawyer community at the Aiwan-e-Adl.

The governor also said firmly that the incumbent government would complete its term and the next general elections would be held on time.

Using the opportunity to carry out some damage control at a time when the civilian government seems besieged on all sides, Khosa added that Mansoor Ijaz was “the biggest conspirator” and that the president would foil the efforts of those who were “orchestrating conspiracies” against him.

He said that Zardari will return to the country in a few days and that he had gone to Dubai for the medical check-up because of security concerns, which had also previously prevented him from seeing his father Hakim Ali Zardari when he was admitted at the PIMS hospital in Islamabad.

‘Zardari will not resign’

Speaking to the media earlier, Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that Zardari will not tender his resignation at any cost and will complete his five-year term.

He also clarified that all political parties would contest their elections on their party manifesto and their candidates will participate separately. Shujaat added that PML-Likeminded members were moving to join other political parties while PML-Q members were sticking with their parent party.
