On November 30, Prem Chand, a resident of Qureshi Muhalla, Daharki, lodged a case at the Daharki police station against five men - Tariq Leghari, Shakir Leghari, Allah Diwayo Leghari and Mohammad Ibrahim Leghari - for kidnapping his sister Dr Sulachni Bai.
According to the assistant head constable, Riaz Leghari, Prem Chand claimed that his sister used to run a private clinic near the grain market and Tariq used to work there as a dispenser. The police officer claimed that Prem Chand believed that Tariq and his cousins had abducted his sister. Sources said that the police raided Chadan Leghari’s village but Tariq, his parents and relatives were not found. However, the police continued to search and took 10 villagers into custody. Some journalists claim that the police released the suspects after accepting a hefty bribe. The police said that they had conducted a raid but did not arrest any villagers as everyone had fled.
A source told The Express Tribune that Dr Sulachni Bai and Tariq had fallen in love but the doctor knew that her parents would never let her marry a Muslim so they eloped. The source added that the couple had caught a bus to Punjab to get married and Sulachni Bai had converted to Islam.
Sulachni Bai’s father Ghansham Das refuses to believe this. He insists that she was taken away against her will. The police confirmed that Tariq had contacted journalists in the area and had told them about the marriage and about his wife accepting Islam.

Agreed with American. I understand why a woman can't marry a man who is a non-Muslim, you want to make sure that the children turn out Muslim since we follow a patrilineage and that Muslim women have less freedom of choice in choosing their life partner, but I will never agree with it. It is wrong.

If non- muslim countries ever do that muslims are the first to cry hoarse. Muslims must not do to other religions what they expect other religions not to do to them.
Pakistanis will one day SOON face the choice of fire or conversion to a reliogion other than Islam. That is the law of cause and effect and payment for these heinous acts. We shall see what these brave voices then say, or who their bums protect.
@American: I am Hindu from India. Two of my uncles have married Muslim women. They're doing great. I have three cousins who are either Hindu or Muslim: I never bothered to ask :-)

If a Muslim girl, with her own free will, marries a Hindu man.. everyone (ppl not even related to her) would be upset.. In my book, treat others how you want to be treated! If this same man's sister wanted to marry a Hindu guy..he'd give her hell!

Did Muslim retaliate when a Hindu man like Hrithik Roshan marry a Muslim woman? Did we attack AR Rahman's father when he married a Muslim woman and brought up his kids as Hindus? Muslims are not against a marriage between a Muslim woman and a Hindu man, granted that man embraced Islam. This rule applies to a Hindu woman who planned on marrying a Muslim man. If he/she would not embrace Islam, then that marriage will not be approved by the religious law and the country's law. Just like Muslims are prohibted from marrying more than one woman in Western country, the law of the land should hold supreme in Pakistan too.
@Observer Religion is merely part of your jingoism. But for Muslims, it's also about following rules and regulations stated in their Holy book. Muslim men are allowed to marry Christian and Jewish women. But Hindus are out of this "people of the book" description and hence you need to convert to Islam. How is it possible for you to fall in love with a Muslim and yet refuse to love his religion and culture when you know clearly that Islam is very strict when it comes to the religion of the spouse? If you don't want to convert, don't fall in love with a Muslim. Simple, no?
If Muslims know that his/her sudden crush from another faith would refuse to convert, he/she should know better whether to continue the relationship or not. After all, you see many Indian men "goofing" with White women only to reject their marriage proposals for a chaste Indian woman waiting in the backwater of India. Just like you are obssess with your "Indian identity", we care about our "Muslim identity".
Islam is not alone in calling for conversion. Most Christian denominations called for conversion. Judaism demands the same. If you don't want to convert to Islam, Christianity or Judaism, don't fall in love with us. As simple as that.

Though I haven't heard of it, still I have no problem with this marriage if it really happened. She was surely not abducted and forced into the marriage.
i hope all hindus in pakistan convert to islam if that is what helps them lead a peaceful life and avoid being targetted and discriminated against.it's a shame to live a life of constant harrasment.

That is the important question.
There is nothing wrong in marriages between people of different religions as long as they are consensual. The fact is that it is only Muslims (and Islam) that insist that their spouses convert. Why should that be?
As for this particular incident, based on past history of kidnapping, forcible marriage and conversion of Hindus, Christians and other minorities in Pakistan, it does raise suspicion of foul-play.

@American Get your facts right. There are examples of Saudi/Qatari women falling in Love with and Getting married to American Marines and eloping with them to the US. You and your folk blame the muslims in such instances.
Now even when a non muslim woman falls in love with a muslim man and marries him and accepts Islam out of her own free will, you still blame the muslims. Just hows how bigoted you are against the muslims.
It proves true the Quranic verse(2:120) : "And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion. Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [only] guidance." If you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have against Allah no protector or helper."

If a Hindu or a christian had done it, the muslims would have retaliated en masse on the minorities. on the first place will the muslims tolerate a muslim girl marrying a hindu/christian ? golden rule: dont do to other communities what u dont want others to do to your community.
