Football: Huth strike sinks Everton
The defender scored from a set-piece to sink the Toffees.
LIVERPOOL:
Robert Huth’s first goal of the season gave Stoke a hard-fought 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.
Although Huth is a defender by trade, the German international has developed a habit of causing havoc from Stoke’s set-pieces until this season, when he had gone without a goal before his decisive first-half strike sunk the Toffees. His clever finish condemned Everton to a fourth home defeat this season.
“This was a real battling performance against a good Everton team,” said Stoke manager Tony Pulis. “It’s been a great week for the club. To get six points and to qualify for the latter stages of the Europa League is first class.” Elsewhere, Wolves came from behind to beat Sunderland 2-1.
