Police welfare fund: Four suspended over embezzlement

Officials’ involvement in misappropriation of Rs4.961 million.

FAISALABAD:
Four police officials were suspended from duties after they were found guilty of corruption and embezzlement in funds earmarked for the Police Welfare Petrol Pump. A police spokesman said the suspension was ordered after Regional Police Officer Aftab Ahmad Cheema received a complaint about these officials’ involvement in misappropriation of Rs4.961 million. Those suspended were identified as Assistant Sub Inspector  Bashir Ahmad, ASI Qasim Ali, former Accountant CPO Office Shabbir Ahmad and Muharar Sabir Ali. SSP (Investigation) Mujahid Akbar Khan found the officials guilty on the basis of the statements of several police officials and inspection of record of the Police Welfare Fund and the income and expenses of the petrol pump. It was established in the inquiry that ASI Bashir Ahmad had returned Rs.450,000; ASI Qasim Ali Rs682,630 and Shabbir Ahmad Rs2.08 million. The remaining Rs1.20 million was still with the four suspects.
