Sabzi Mandi Bypass: Protest against double toll recovery
The drivers demanded that the ‘illegal practice’ be stopped.
FAISALABAD:
Dozens of rickshaw drivers staged two protest demonstrations in the city on Saturday against the Sabzi Mandi market committee for charging them at the bypass for every entry in a day. At a protest near the Sabzi Mandi, the drivers demanded that the ‘illegal practice’ be stopped. They said paying the fee once a day was fine and that having to pay it multiple times left them with little or no income to take home by the end of the day. Sabzi Mandi rickshaw stand manager Shaukat Ali led the other protest on Jhang Road where the drivers later staged a sit-in, blocking the road for traffic. The protesters dispersed after Thikriwala station house officer Chaudhry Abdur Razzaq arrived at the scene and assured them he would persuade the Sabzi Mandi administration to redress the drivers’ grievance.
