National Conference: Wealth of resources still to be exploited
Conference on “Analysis and best use of material wealth of Pakistan” at Peshawar University.
PESHAWAR:
Pakistan has lost out due to lack of skilled manpower and neglect of its material resources, said delegates at a three-day national conference on “Analysis and best use of material wealth of Pakistan” concluded at Peshawar University on Friday.
Provincial Minster for Sports, Tourism and Archaeology Aqil Shah was the chief guest at the conference organised by Materials Research Laboratory (MRL). The conference declaration revealed that the global market for materials is around $4 trillion and is growing at a constant rate of five per cent annually. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the adjoining tribal region are rich in material resources but little has been done to exploit them.
Delegates were of the opinion that Pakistan’s mineral wealth has been sold to foreign contractors at nominal rates who earn billions of dollars by transforming them into innovative products.
Low priority awarded to establishing modern centres with state-of-the-art machinery for processing raw materials, has resulted in lost revenue for the country.
