Sugarcane crop: Ban on cross-province movement demanded

Mills in Sindh were illegally buying sugar cane from Punjab.

HYDERABAD:

Sindh Chamber of Agriculture has demanded a cross-province ban on movement of sugarcane.

An executive committee meeting of the chamber on Friday regretted that while the government has failed to implement its notification of starting cane crushing in Sindh by Nov 1, it has also failed to check inter-provincial sale.

The chamber alleged that Faran Sugar Mills in Sindh is unlawfully buying cane from Punjab.  Sindh Chamber of Agriculture vice president Akhund Ghulam Muhammad Siddiqui also disapproved of the action taken by Sindh Cane Commissioner who went to the court this week implicating five mills for not starting sugarcane crushing on the prescribed government date.
