Tennis: Nadal faces Monaco in Davis Cup opener
David Ferrer will take on Juan Martin Del Potro in today’s second singles match.
SEVILLA:
Rafael Nadal was pitted against Argentina’s Juan Monaco in the Davis Cup opening singles rubber as the world number two returns to the scene of his first professional triumph to begin Spain’s bid for a third title in four years.
David Ferrer will take on Juan Martin Del Potro in today’s second singles match. Tomorrow’s doubles match pits Spanish pair Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez against David Nalbandian and Eduardo Schwank. Neither Nadal nor Ferrer have ever lost a Davis Cup singles rubber on clay. “After all that’s happened since, it’s nice to return to the place where everything began and I hope the result of the final is the same,” said Nadal.
