The Society for Environmental Actions (SEAs) organised a debate on ‘Genetically Modified Foods-Good or Bad’ at Lahore College for Women University on Wednesday.
The proponents stressed that Pakistanis cannot ignore the potential of this technique.
The opponents said that the release of genetically engineered organisms into the environment may upset the ecology.
A documentary on genetically modified foods was also shown.
The head of environmental science department Dr Arifa Tahir and Asstt Prof Dr Atiqur Rehman also shared their views on the subject.
The participants also recommended guidelines and methodologies for the technology development process, from the pre-release risk assessment to bio-safety considerations and post-release monitoring.
