Encounter Case: Prosecution witnesses don’t turn up
Trial of four policemen accused of killing a robbery suspect in custody
LAHORE:
Prosecution witnesses summoned for the trial of four policemen accused of killing a robbery suspect in custody failed to turn up before Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Sheraz Kiani on Wednesday.
The judge, on an application from DSP Riasat Bajwa, one of the accused policemen, directed jail authorities to take the DSP to Lahore General Hospital for a medical check-up. He directed jail officials to submit the medical report to the court by December 8.
DSP Bajwa, Sub Inspector Muhammad Riaz and Constables Muhammad Asif and Abdul Qadir allegedly shot and killed Shehbaz Butt in their custody and then tried to pass off his death as a justified killing in an encounter.
A murder case was registered against them after a DIG conducted an inquiry which found them guilty.
