The sale of the Jaguars, who earlier on Tuesday announced that head coach Jack Del Rio has been fired, is subject to the approval of the NFL and its team owners.
"Shahid Khan is a great American success story and he will be an outstanding owner for this franchise and for this community," Weaver said at a news conference.
The Jaguars, who are 3-8 this season and eliminated from playoff contention, have a league-low estimated value of $725 million according to a Forbes study published in September.
"Owning a team in the National Football League has long been my personal and professional goal," said Khan, who came to the United States from Pakistan in 1967 at the age of 16.
"Becoming the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars would be a dream come true for me and my family."
Jaguars' chairman and chief executive Weaver and his partners had owned the team since 1993 when they won an expansion franchise for Jacksonville.
The team's loss on Sunday was followed by a decision on Tuesday to fire longtime coach Del Rio, who was 11 games into his ninth season with the NFL team.
Khan, who last year tried to buy the NFL's St. Louis Rams, heads Illinois-based automobile parts manufacturer Flex-N-Gate, which employs over 12,000 people at 57 facilities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain and Argentina, with annual sales exceeding $3 billion.

@Raj: "You are right, I have forgotten that one has to hate India and burn US flags to be called Pakistani." That's another irrational generalization on your part. Not every Pakistani hates India or burns American flags. Just like not every Indian works at a gas station, motel, or a call-center. Get your goddamn thinking straight and then try to comment on issues. Also, you are now contradicting what you said earlier "I love Pakistan more than the Pakistanis." Now you are talking about "alienation towards Pakistan." So what is your true stand; love for Pakistan or alienation towards Pakistan. Seems like you are negating everything you said earlier. Like I said, you are confused about your identity, grow up!
@Hedgefunder: "You are not good enough to be Pakistani.," You are right, I have forgotten that one has to hate India and burn US flags to be called Pakistani. Now I can hedge this advise to fund my alienation towards Pakistan.
Hedgefunder and ukmuslim....Both of you do not know me personally and therefore I do not mind your comments.
@Raj positive thinking and approach is good for quality of life... your initial comment is unnecessarily
@Raj: "I am more Pakistani than my Pakistani friends. You are not good enough to be Pakistani. Also, if you hate Pakistan so much why would you want to become Pakistani? I guess you are confused about your identity, it happens.
ok! but how do pakistan and its people benefit from this? If not its just a matter of inflated egos.
Relieving good and positive news that may help Pakistan to subsidize bad image abroad.
@A suhail: Tell this ..."This news update was about a Pakistani making it big in US.." to your fellow countrymen who burn the flag of USA at flip of a coin where as America provides equal opportunities to everyone irrespective of race, religion, nationality and sex.
@raj. Why do Indians always find a way to critique Pakistan. This news update was about a Pakistani making it big in US and you find a way to rub it to us.. Indians made money in silicon valley, which is in US not in India and I have respect for that. But to spin it , I can say that how come these Indian's were unable to make it big in their native country? We have our own success stories here in Pakistan I.e Mian Mansha, who is among the richest people in the world. I am proud of both Mansha and Shahid and trust me if these two people change places they will still be able to have the same success.
@Tanzi: I am not comparing, I am simply responding. I love Pakistan more than the Pakistanis. I have learned Urdu by watching PTV. I can read and write Urdu. I am more Pakistani than my Pakistani friends. I wonder if you can read and write any Indian language other than Urdu and English.
The Jaguars suck, hopefully he has the business sense to move the team to LA.
Great news! With Pakistani-American ownership the NFL and specially Jaguar games, are going to be explosive!
@Raj:
And what is the reason or value behind your petty little comparison? Ethnocentrism or personal hatred? If so... then it's sad to see you spend your precious time on it.
Great news. Good luck Mr. Khan. We are all proud of you. Hope to see your team on victory stand next years's super sunday.
Shahid Khan zindabad, Pakistan Zindabad!!!
@A suhail: Yes he would have. He ( Sanjay Kumar ) was a software engineer and like many Indians in the Silicon Valley he made a fortune. Azim Premji ( a Muslim Indian) is one of the richest persons in the world.. Suhail, why Pakistan has to always compare with India and why there always has to be anti American sentiment?
Just an update, Sanjay later sold the franchise. He was jailed for securities fraud. This will bring you some peace of mind. There are many people of different Nationalities including Pakistan often do securities fraud. US justice system is very fair and punish them accordingly.
@Raj, India should explain that the Indian-American, who owned NY Islanders, would have achieved this level of success in India.
Super!! I must watch it.
Great news. As a fan of NFL , I am excited to watch a Pakistani- American buy Jaguars. Wish Mr. Shahid good luck.
