ISLAMABAD:

All 30 heads of departments of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) were given training on university-based strategic planning in a workshop on Tuesday.

Senior faculty and administration members also attended the workshop, which was organised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) under its Modern University Governance (MUG) program.

A former president of two US universities, Dr Mary Linda Armacost, conducted different sessions on the process, barriers, design and dynamics of strategic planning for university management. She said the consultation exercise would help the department heads and senior faculty members in setting more realistic goals, in-line with their unique higher education needs.

“Strategic planning is a way to set your priorities and goals and monitor progress. It ensures academic quality by creating real engagement among departments, within the departments, with teachers, students, and external constituencies,” she added.

Dr Armacost said effective strategic planning is a tool to face the emerging challenges in an innovative way and is a structured approach for anticipating the future.

During interactive sessions and group activities, comprehensive strategic plans for different departments of the university were discussed and evolved. The participants appreciated the initiative as an “incredible learning experience”.
