Muharram moon: Ashura to fall on December 6

Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman evidence of moon sightings were received from cities including Islamabad and Jhelum.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced that the moon of Muharramul Haram 1433 AD was sighted in the country and that the Ashura would fall on Tuesday, December 6.

The meeting of Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee for sighting the moon of Muharram-ul-Haram, presided over by its Chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, was held at Aiwan-i-Auqaf here on Saturday evening.



Addressing the media after the meeting, the chairman said that though the moon was not sighted in Lahore, evidence of moon sightings were received from other cities including Islamabad and Jhelum. He said that the Ashura, the 10th Muharramul Harram, will be observed on December 6.

He said that the nation was at a critical juncture so it was the responsibility of ulema, scholars and zakiarin to promote harmony among different religious sects in the country. He urged people to face challenges as a united nation. Later, the chairman prayed for peace, sovereignty, prosperity and progress in the country.
