Scores tied in thrilling draw
Ojha shines but hosts fall just short against West Indies.
MUMBAI:
Spinners Pragyan Ojha and Ravichandran Ashwin plotted a sensational West Indies collapse before the third Test ended in a thrilling draw with scores level on the last day, as India took the series 2-0.
Ojha finished with six for 47 and Ashwin with four for 34 as West Indies were dismissed for 134 in their second-innings after losing their last eight wickets for 43 runs. India finished at 242 for nine chasing a 243-run target, with Virat Kohli scoring 63 and Virender Sehwag 60.
India needed three runs to win in the last over with two wickets in hand, but Fidel Edwards conceded only two to prevent an Indian win.
The famed Indian batting line-up struggled to achieve the target. India were 189 for six after losing Gautam Gambhir (12), Rahul Dravid (33), Sachin Tendulkar (three), VVS Laxman (31) and MS Dhoni (13).
West Indies captain Darren Sammy said that the match had been a great advertisement for Test cricket. “This was a great advert for Test cricket,” said Sammy. “We didn’t bat well, but we fought.”
