Fighting words: ‘My biggest asset is the public’s support’

Nawaz Sharif lashes out at Imran over allegations.

Express November 24, 2011

LAHORE:

If my family was involved in any corruption scandal former president Pervez Musharraf would have registered corruption cases against my family instead of a highjacking case, said PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif on Thursday.

Sharif was giving an address at the key distribution ceremony of Punjab government’s Yellow Cab Scheme at Alhamara Hall.

Sharif said it was easy to point fingers but difficult to come up with the proof. He said those raising the issue of corruption and assets were only trying to malign him and his family. The PML-N leader said it was easy to wave fake or irrelevant documents in front of the public. He regretted that no one had inquired how he would financially provide for his family when he was in exile.

Sharif proclaimed that public support was his biggest asset and the media should back away from lies and mud slinging at political parties and their leaders.

Sharif distributed keys under the Yellow Cab Scheme to around 203 successful applicants.

He said that government through negotiation had purchased the cars at a concession of Rs960 million. He hoped that the initiative would prove an incentive among youth to work for themselves and to stop relying on others for support.

PML-N’s Central Information Secretary Mushahidullah Khan, through a press statement, said Khan’s strategy in politics was mud slinging. He said PML-N was not a party running on charity, rather it had donors who contributed to the party. He ruled out Khan’s allegation regarding Punjab government using public funds for PML-N’s rallies in the Punjab.

Your newspaper is biased and you would lose good number of readers and it would also affect the credibility of ET. Though I am not member of any political party however it is strange that NS has been given coverage while handing over keys of taxis while news about the public gathering at Chakwal in PTI jalsa has not found any space in ET.
