Murder after Kidnap: District bar cancels suspect’s membership

District Bar Association disbarred a lawyer who has allegedly confessed to kidnapping and murdering a teenager.

FAISALABAD:

The District Bar Association (DBA) disbarred a lawyer who has allegedly confessed to kidnapping and murdering a teenager.

The woman, Ishrat Naheed, was arrested on Wednesday night.

Fawwad Ahmad Cheema, the president of Faisalabad district bar said that the bar will not offer any kind of assistance to Naheed “who committed a heinous crime and a shameful act”. Cheema said that Naheed should be punished in accordance with the law. Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, a lawyer, seconded the bar president’s view saying that Naheed deserved to be punished. On Thursday, Ishrat Naheed was presented before an anti-terrorism court. The judge granted Samanabad police a five-day physical remand to interrogate Naheed further and to recover the ransom money. Police said Naheed has confessed to first kidnapping and then murdering her 16-year-old student Bilal. They said she had intoxicated Bilal and later contacted his parents to demand Rs3.5 million in ransom. The teenager’s parents agreed to pay Rs3 million. But the boy was killed despite the payment of ransom. Naheed allegedly told the police that he was killed “because he recognised me”. The police claim to have recovered Rs1.6 million of the ransom money from her and are looking for her accomplices.

Javaid, the teenager’s father, said, “I was shocked. I was speechless for a while when I heard that she (Ishrat Naheed) was the mastermind.”
