Regularisation: Pharmacists’ petition dismissed

Pharmacists said Health Secretary was restrained from taking any adverse action against them till the case was decided

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday disposed of a contempt of court petition filed by 68 pharmacists against their removal despite a restraining order by the court as the Punjab government informed the court that it had held the process of filling vacancies in abeyance.

The petitioner pharmacists had submitted in their contempt petition that the matter regarding their regularisation was pending before the High Court and the Health Secretary was restrained from taking any adverse action against them till the case was decided.

They said despite the stay order, the Health Secretary had terminated their services. The petitioners said the act of the respondent amounted to contempt of court.

Petitioners prayed to the court to set aside their termination as illegal and without lawful authority and initiate contempt proceedings against the respondent secretary.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court, at the last hearing, had suspended the termination orders of the 68 ad-hoc pharmacists and had issued a notice to the Health Secretary in this regard.
