Prosecutor General: ‘He was never even interviewed’

The petitioner said the respondent had not applied for the post nor had he appeared before the interview committee.

LAHORE:

Justice Ahmad Farooq Sheikh of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought reply from the Punjab government on a petition challenging the appointment of Advocate Ashtar Ausaf Ali as the Punjab prosecutor general. Advocate Sultan Ahmad Irshad filed the petition submitting that the Prosecution Department had interviewed 44 applicants including the petitioner to fill the post.

The petitioner said the respondent had not applied for the post nor had he appeared before the interview committee.

He alleged that the appointment was not on merit and was a violation of the law and the Constitution. The petitioner prayed that the appointment be declared illegal.

He further prayed that chief minister, prosecution secretary and law secretary be proceeded against according to the law. The court directed the government to file the reply within two weeks.
