Sectarian violence: ASWJ man gunned down

He suffered a head wound and died at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

KARACHI:
A 35-year-old Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ) activist, Qari Zafar, was killed at his house in North Nazimabad in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police said that at least two armed men entered his house in Block-B of Wahid Colony and escaped after shooting him.

He suffered a head wound and died at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to SHO Malik Ayub, Zafar was the father of three from Rahim Yar Khan and taught at the Ashraful Madaris in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. He belonged to the Deobandi school of thought and was a senior activist of the ASWJ, formerly known as the banned religious outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba. He is believed to have been the group’s unit incharge for Wahid Colony and was apparently killed on sectarian grounds.

ASWJ spokesperson Maulana Taj Hanfi condemned the incident and threatened to protest unless the government catches the people targeting ASWJ men. A case has been filed but no arrests had been made till this story was filed.
