Muharram security: IG Punjab visits Sahiwal

LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IG) Punjab Javed Iqbal, along with the subcommittee constituted by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, visited the Sahiwal region to finalise security arrangements for the month of Muharram, on Tuesday.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sahiwal Khaliq Dad Lak, District Police Officer (DPO) Sahiwal Ayaz Saleem, DPO Okara Dr Mohammad Abid Khan and DPO Pakpattan Jehan Zaib Nazir Khan briefed the subcommittee regarding the steps being taken by the police department in the region.

Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa , Chief Secretary Punjab Nasir Mehmood Khosa and Home Secretary Punjab Shahid Khan were also present at the briefing.

The police chief agreed to enhance the police force during Muharram on the request of Sahiwal police officers.

Iqbal directed the field officers to conduct regular surveillance of Madrassas. He also gave directions for the deputation of female volunteers at majalis for the checking of women.

The inspector general also directed police officials to ensure that the force is on high alert till the Chehlum.

DPO Pakpattan later briefed the police chief regarding security measures taken for the annual Urs of Hazrat Baba Fareed Shakar Ganj.
