‘Violations of rules’ not going well with QAU employees
Stage protest, claim of nepotism in appointments.

Expressing their discontent over the management of the institution, employees of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on Monday took a rally across the university. They alleged that the administration was not following the rules and regulations in key policy matters.
The general body of the Employees Welfare Association (EWA) of the university also held a meeting at the main campus to discuss the state of affairs. They were of the view that the administration was not following the green book and calendar of the university, in recruitment of staff and pursuing other key policy matters. The employees threatened to stage a sit-in in front of the Parliament House, if their demands were not met.
While talking to The Express Tribune, EWA President Hassan Shah said that the dean of the university was violating merit and rules, enshrined in the green book of the university while recruiting staff.
He said that a large number of employees from grade 1 to 17, had been recruited without following the rules. “New staff was hired on contractual basis initially. Later vacancies were created to adjust them internally, “ he said. Shah termed this as a sheer violation of the merit and rules prescribed in the university green book.
He alleged that the university registrar had appointed one of his close relatives as assistant registrar legal without following merit. Additionally, he said, many other people had been appointed without completing the due process. The president of the welfare association said that the university registrar, with the blessing of the vice chancellor, was promoted to grade 21 from grade 19 within a short span of two years.
Such ‘illegal’ promotions have caused frustration among the genuine and deserving employees, he said, adding that these employees are also being victimised by the administration for raising their voices.
QAU Vice Chancellor (VC) Masoom Yasinzai, on the other hand, denied all the allegations levelled by Shah, calling them baseless. He said that the president of the welfare association was also involved in physically thrashing some transport staff. “He resorted to protest along with handful of his supporters when the university administration issued a charge-sheet to him after two inquiries,” said Dr Yasinzai.
The VC added that Shah was only concerned with his vested interests and Tuesday was the last day for submitting of the answers of the 34-point charge-sheet that was issued to him in the light of the inquiry two committees.
