Event: ‘Govt has done little for children’
Successive federal governments have failed to introduce child specific laws and policies.
No concrete steps have been taken by the government to implement the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), said a press release issued by the Child Rights Movement (CRM) on Sunday.
Pakistan’s poor performance with reference to the implementation of the CRC is evident from the fact that successive federal governments have failed to introduce child specific laws and policies. Similarly, resource allocation, establishment of effective coordination mechanisms, training and sensitization of the professionals are also almost nonexistent.
This was the crux of an event held by CRM at Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai community hall in Islamabad. Children presented stage play, puppet show, songs, drawing and painting competition.
CRM is a coalition of non-government local and international organisations working for child rights. The aim of CRM is to create an enabling environment for children through collective advocacy on child rights issues and act as a pressure group of civil society.
