Woman’s body found from UAF servant quarters

Police have registered a case against the woman’s husband and are looking for her brother.

FAISALABAD:

A young woman was killed under mysterious circumstances in the servant quarters of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) on Saturday. According to the police officials, the only suspect at present is Raheem Khadim, who works at the university as a sweeper. “He is the only person currently living in the UAF servant quarters,” police inspector Javed Rana said.

Local residents and Khadim’s co-workers told us that his sister Safiya Bibi had recently come to live with him. “Safia was married to someone in Mandi Bahauddin but had recently left him and come to seek refuge with her brother here,” said a sweeper at the university, Altaf. Police officials said that Safia Bibi had married goldsmith Muhammad Yaqoob but the couple had argued over finances and Yaqoob’s alleged affair. “She came here to stay with Khadim and she was here for several days but he hasn’t been to work for nearly two days and two days ago we found the body in his quarters,” Altaf said.

A sweeper at the university, Almas Bibi said that she had smelled something rotting inside Khadim’s room and she called other staffers to break the lock so they could find out.

“I know that Safiya’s husband was here a few days ago to reconcile with her but they quarrelled here. Everybody heard them fighting. I guess he must have shot her but they both escaped,” Altaf told police. Altaf said that they called the police and Safia’s body was sent to Allied Hospital for an autopsy. Police officials arrested Yaqoob but he denied the charges and said that Safia had committed suicide.
“There was no gun in Khadim’s rooms and Safia was shot in the back of the head so it is unlikely this is a suicide,” said Dr Khalid Ashraf.

Police officials have registered a case against Yaqoob and are also searching for Khadim’s whereabouts. “Strict action will be taken after we receive a complete report of the autopsy,” Inspector Imran Niazi told reporters. “We are questioning Yaqoob about the incident,” he added.
