PESHAWAR:
The federal government has approved Rs2 billion for the provision of gas to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). The projects for the supply of gas have also been approved and the funds would be released in the coming week.
This was said by the Parliamentary Leader of MNAs from Fata, Muneer Khan Orakzai, in a meeting at the office of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) on Saturday.
He explained that a survey of different areas would be conducted in the first phase of the projects, followed by the practical work in the second phase of the projects.
He also said that the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue has unanimously approved a gas levy bill under which the SNGPL would earn Rs34 billion annually. The money will be spent on development projects.
SNGPL Peshawar Chief Engineer Haroon Khan told The Express Tribune that the institution is suffering from a loss of billions of rupees due to gas theft. However, he said that the situation is likely to improve as an act to deal with gas theft has been passed.
