Embassy Land Case: Petition against NAB dismissed

A probe into allegations of kickbacks in selling embassy land in Japan and Indonesia in 2002.

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday dismissed a contempt petition against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for not acting on court orders regarding a probe into allegations of kickbacks in selling embassy land in Japan and Indonesia in 2002.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial dismissed the petition, terming it premature. The court observed that the NAB chairman had been appointed recently, therefore, the petitioner should approach him for the needful.

The petition was filed by Dr Qaisar.

The petitioner submitted that a single bench of the LHC had ordered the NAB to hold a probe into allegations of kickbacks in selling embassy land in Japan and Indonesia in 2002, on a petition filed by him. However, NAB authorities failed to act on court orders.

The LHC single bench ordered a probe into the sale of embassy land while disposing of it.
