LHC seeks government assistance in Raymond Davis Immunity case

LHC CJ issued notices to provincial and federal govt law officers, adjourns hearing to December 15.

LAHORE:
Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Thursday issued notices to provincial and federal government law officers  for legal assistance regarding the petition to summon former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi over the issue of Raymond Davis’ immunity.

The application was filed by Advocate Noshab A Khan, praying to summon the former foreign minister to record his statement that he was pressurized into giving diplomatic immunity to Davis, who had gunned down two Pakistani citizens and was later released after paying blood money.

Khan had filed the application in his already pending petition on the matter. He said Qureshi had resigned as foreign minister and claimed that he refused to bow down under pressure over giving diplomatic immunity to Davis.

Khan added that Qureshi maintained in his statement that he had refused to give diplomatic immunity to the CIA contractor because he was not an ambassador.

Justice Saeed ordered for an Assistant Attorney General and Additional Advocate General to assist the court to determine under which law the court can summon a private person. The judge adjourned the hearing for December 15.
