Resilient Sajjad bounces back in snooker event
Imran continues winning run, Toba’s dismal campaign continues.
KARACHI:
After suffering back-to-back defeats on opening day, former national champion Mohammad Sajjad hit back in the fourth Del Monte Ranking Snooker Tournament, dishing out a 4-1 defeat to Asif Toba.
It was another disastrous result for Toba, chosen to represent Pakistan at the World Snooker Championship in India, as he suffered his third successive match in the ongoing tournament.
While his performance raises questions on the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association’s (PBSA) decision to send him for the event in New Delhi, Sajjad gave the officials plenty to think about after he was overlooked for the high-profile tournament.
Toba won the closely-contested opening frame but lost the following four 89-49, 58-50, 51-28, 74-05 as Sajjad sealed his win.
Imran continues winning run
Meanwhile, Pakistan number one Imran Shahzad, who is the other cueist chosen to play in India, continued his winning streak with a 4-2 victory over Mohammad Imran to take his tally to three on the second day. After losing the first two frames 13-70, 15-68, Shahzad recovered to win the next four 94-28, 58-07, 61-28 and 76-26.
Another highlight was former national champion Shahid Aftab’s break of 103, the second century break in the tournament. He hit the break in the fifth frame while recording a 4-1 win over Umair Alam.
Mohammad Yousuf endured a tough day as he lost 4-1 to Mohammad Asif. The defeat comes after the veteran cueist recorded an impressive 4-2 win over Toba.
