Bangladesh may end international cricket drought

PCB chairman Ashraf asks counterpart to send team next year.

KARACHI:
In a bid to improve relations with member boards and bringing international cricket back to the country, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf met his Bangladesh counterpart in Dubai yesterday, focusing on arranging a bilateral series to be held in Pakistan.

Ashraf met the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Mustafa Kamal and discussed a number of cricketing matters, but stressed on the arrangement of a tour to Pakistan.

Pakistan have not hosted a Test-playing country since the attack on the Sri Lankan team in March 2009. Afghanistan are the only international cricket team to have toured the country that also lost the hosting rights to this year’s World Cup.

According to a PCB official, Ashraf has requested his counterpart to send the Bangladesh team, which is scheduled to tour Pakistan in April in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Future Tours Programme.

“It was a productive meeting,” the official told The Express Tribune. “The BCB chief has given a positive response and we’re looking forward to hosting the series against them.”

‘Indecision’ on candidate for ICC’s vice-presidency

However, the official claimed there was indecisiveness on nominating a candidate for the ICC’s vice-presidency.

The PCB and the BCB have their turn for the 2012-14 tenure and Bangladesh are desperate to name their candidate since Pakistan have already been represented by Ehsan Mani as ICC president from 2003-2006.

“The matter is still under discussion,” said the official. “Both boards are in agreement that a candidate will be selected with mutual consent.”

The ICC meeting relating to the nomination will be
held today.
