The real impasse
KARACHI:
This is with reference to Rasul Bakhsh Rais’s article “At an impasse” (July 19). People with faith and hope in normalisation of relations between India and Pakistan were left extremely disappointed on the failure of the talks between the two countries. The real impasse, however, is that the Indians don’t trust us and we are not ready to submit to their selective agenda either which focuses only on the Mumbai attacks investigations.
If we want to break this dead end, we must address all the Indian
apprehensions on the issue of Mumbai attacks. One has to only read the comments posted by the Pakistanis and the Indians under the articles on failures of talks published in The Hindustan Times and The Times of India to visualise the hatred and animosity that surfaces between people of the two countries every time fixed positions are taken on such issues.
One does not know when the two countries will agree to changing the lives and fates of over a billion of their citizens but surely they can both try and can stop disagreeing so publicly.
