Punjab announces 32,000 vacancies for teachers
A total of 921 positions will be filled in Lahore.
The education department of Punjab announced 32,000 vacancies for teachers in the province, Express 24/7 reported on Sunday.
This would mark the first large scale recruitment by Punjab's education sector in the past five years.
Almost a year ago, the office of the secretary for education had asked Executive District Officers (EDOs) to submit details of available vacancies.
According to sources, a total of 921 positions will be filled in Lahore, with teachers being hired for the elementary and secondary levels as well.
The details for these posts have been put up on the website of School Education Department.
According to the provincial Education Department, there are 6,615 schools in the province that have one teacher.
The data of Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU) Punjab Education Sector Reforms Programme, which is responsible for policy making on school education, shows that there are 43,408 primary schools in Punjab. Of these, 21,541 are girls schools while 21,561 are for boys.
The number of students enrolled in primary schools is 4,696,956, with 55% male students and 45% female students. There are 118,458 teachers in the province, with 50% women.
