Young learners test: Local students first worldwide to take Chinese test
The test consists of two sections: written and spoken test, each independent of each other.
Students from Roots School System (RSS) became the first batch of international students to take the Young Learners Chinese Test (YCT), said a press release issued by the school on Saturday. The test judges Chinese language ability, assessing the learner’s ability to use Chinese in daily life.
The test consists of two sections: written and spoken test, each independent of each other.
Like other standardised tests, the YCT requires a vocabulary of approximately 600 words, understanding short passages relevant to studies and communicate basic feelings, attitudes and descriptions of people and places. The test was conducted at a branch of RSS on Saturday.
Chinese language teachers from the NUML supervised the test. RSS Executive Director Chaudhry Faisal Musthaq said, “The youth on both sides of the border is the untapped resource that needs to be utilised in the 21st century by eliminating the language barrier.”
