Remand extended for rape case suspect
The judicial magistrate of South Karachi extended the physical remand of the prime suspect in the Jinnah Hospital rape case.
The judicial magistrate of South Karachi extended the physical remand of the prime suspect in the Jinnah Hospital case, Dr Abdul Jabbar Memon, accused of raping a nurse.
The magistrate granted the remand as the police was unable to get the victim Magdelena Ashraf's statement and the testimony of the witnesses. The police also has to interrogate the prime suspect in the case, along with three accomplices.
Jinnah Hospital administration has not allowed police to question the victim, on grounds that the hospital management is yet to authorise the police to meet the victim. Police however said that it has permission from the head of the Intensive Care Unit.
Dr Abdul Jabbar's lawyer said that his client was too ill to be presented inside the court. Dr Memon was brought outside the court on a stretcher where Magistrate Zulfiqar Ali met him.
The court extended the accused's remand for another six days.
