KARACHI:
The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), in response to a tender floated on November 1, has awarded import contracts for 440,000 tons of urea at the rate of $540.75 per ton, including cost and freight, on lowest bid basis to four bidders.
With these purchases, TCP has achieved the import target of 700,000 tons, set by the government, for the Rabi 2011-12 crop sowing season.
According to the TCP, 13 bidders participated in the
tender and quoted prices ranging from $540.75 to $578 per ton.
Dreymoor Fertilisers Overseas Limited offered the lowest price of $540.75 per ton for 50,000 tons. However, it agreed to increase the quantity to 100,000 tons at the same price.
“As the offer conformed to all technical specifications and evaluation criteria given in the tender document, the bidder was awarded contract for import of 100,000 tons of urea,” it said.
Three other bidders – Keytrade AG Switzerland, Transmonia Switzerland and Incitec Private Limited Australia – which had quoted higher rates agreed to match the lowest price of $540.75 per ton for supply of 150,000 tons, 100,000 tons and 90,000 tons respectively. They were also awarded contracts.
The TCP said a representative of Transparency International was also present in the meeting, which decided on the tender.
Shipments of urea will start within one week after opening of a letter of credit and expected to be completed by mid-December.
