PPP to ‘expose Punjab govt’s corruption’ every week

Chaudhry Manzoor Sarwar demands CM’s resignation over results debacle.

LAHORE:

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is to hold weekly press conferences where it will ‘expose’ the corruption of the Punjab government, said PPP leader Chaudhry Manzoor Sarwar on Thursday.

Sarwar, who is in charge of the Peoples Labour Bureau and a member of the PPP Central Executive Committee, condemned Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s outspoken views on alleged corruption by President Asif Zardari. “The PPP will expose the corruption in all departments of the Punjab government on a weekly basis,” he told a press conference at the Lahore Press Club.

Sarwar demanded the chief minister’s resignation over the intermediate results fiasco.

He welcomed the Lahore High Court’s decision to form a commission to investigate the causes of the major errors in the results and who was to blame.

He said that the PPP would give the commission evidence of the Punjab government’s incompetence and corruption.

He said that the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education had hired Dr Majid Naeem as an IT consultant because he was a nephew of PML-N leader Ishaq Dar. He asked the chief minister under what rules the consultant had been hired.

He demanded an audit of Lahore BISE purchases, particularly paper and scanners, made while Dr Naeem was in the job. He said that the consultant was involved in the “worst forms of corruption”.

He said that Sharif should have resigned himself instead of just suspending Dr Naeem.
