Police have no lead in Shaukat murder case

Family investigating matter on its own, will announce findings soon.

A week has passed since PML-N leader Rana Shaukat was burnt to death. The police, however, have made no arrests.

Sources close to police investigation say that family of the deceased have asked that suspects should not be questioned. The family, according to the sources, went to investigate the matter on their own and have promised to hand over the results to the police when their investigation is complete.

Last Saturday evening, Shaukat, the president of the Chhanga Manga chapter of the PML-N, was tied to his charpoy at his farm house and set on fire. People sleeping in the next room did not find out about the incident.


Rana Wajid Ali, a nephew of the deceased, told The Express Tribune that there were two potential leads in the case. He claimed that the family would hold a press conference in a few days and announce its findings.

According to the FIR, registered on the complaint of the deceased’s son Shafqat Ali against unknown assailants, Shaukat was made unconscious and then set on fire. Duty Officer Nadeem Ahmed said the three people sleeping in the next room claimed to have heard nothing.

Chunian SDPO Shabbir Warraich said the police were aggressively investigating the case. The findings so far could not be made public, he added. Warraich to set a time line for the case to be resolved.
