New technology: Employees to use fingerprints to enter courts

Identification system is meant to ensure the safety of the employees, judges and the general public coming to courts.

KARACHI:

The Supreme Court and Sindh High Court have installed a biometric fingerprint recognition system to keep track of attendance.

The system was introduced in view of the increasing number of threats. The identification system is meant to ensure the safety of the employees, judges and the general public who come to the courts every day, said an SHC official. It also makes sure that everyone shows up on time and allows the administration to keep track of all its employees through a complete database, he added.

The staff must clock in and out using their fingerprints that are identified by the master computer at the IT section of the two courts. The staff have been trained accordingly and the system is replete with features that allow employees who can’t read to use it, explained an IT official.

According to the administration, punctuality and attendance both have improved since the biometric system was installed.
