Tribute: Ode to the PTV legend Ayub Khoso
Monologue performance and thoughts on yesteryears.
ISLAMABAD:
In a homage of sorts, the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) dedicated an evening to the veteran Pakistan Television (PTV) actor Ayub Khoso on Thursday. PNCA Director Tauqeer Nasir said that the artist was not only “pride and joy of Balochistan” but the entire country for his indispensable contribution to the world of the performing arts.
To showcase his work, a play ‘Main kaun hoon’ (who am I) was screened. It was directed by Shoaib Khaliq and acted out by Khoso himself.
The theme of the play revolved around an artist and his soul search for his true self. Khoso intertwined his life’s story with the play and told the audience that even after spending years in the profession, he was still asking himself ‘who am I?’
Khoso was born in Jaffarabad, Balochistan and graduated from the University of Balochistan. He started his career from PTV Quetta centre; but gained popularity from his famous drama serial ‘Chaon’.
While speaking at the occasion, Laila Zuberi, a TV artist and an old colleague of Khoso, said that she knew him for the last 26 years.
The drama serial Aabroo was the first play, in which she had co-starred with him. “I met him for the first time in Quetta.
I am very happy, to be here, to celebrate such a legendry artist,’’ she added.
Tariq Miaraj, a producer and Khoso’s old friend shared their experiences together. He said Khoso was not not only a good artist but also a good writer. “He is not just a charismatic artist, he is also a good human being, who always takes care of the people in his life,” he said. Miaraj said that Khoso had acted in scores of plays and films but he rose to stardom from the drama serial ‘Chaon.’
