Failed attempt: Two robbers caught on their way out
Weapons and stolen items recovered, third accomplice manages to escape.
ISLAMABAD:
The city police on Wednesday managed to arrest two suspected robbers as they were trying to escape after striking at a house in Sihala. Police said the robbers had made away with cash, cellphones and gold ornaments worth Rs248,300 from the house.
Koral police said they recovered the robbed items from the arrested robbers. Their third accomplice, however, managed to get away.
The three armed men broke into the house of Zahoor Ahmed, a resident of Sihala, which lies in the outskirts of the city.
They gathered the inmates in a single room and one of the robbers was assigned to hold them hostage at gunpoint. The other two gathered cash and jewellery.
Before fleeing, they also snatched cellphones from Ahmed and his family members.
Just before the robbers were about to leave, Ahmed along with other family members tried to stop them from escaping.
“In panic and confusion, the robbers opened fire which did not help their cause. No one was hurt though,” said a police official.
The gunshots alerted a police patrol nearby that reached the spot and found the armed men trying to escape.
On spotting the police, Ahmed started shouting “chor” (thief). The police team headed by Sub-Inspector Anar Khan pursued the robbers and managed to apprehend two of them.
The culprits were later identified as Amir Razzaq and Liaqat, and the police assured that the third accomplice would be arrested soon. Police also recovered two 30-bore pistols and 14 rounds from their possession.
In another incident, the Station House Officer (SHO) Sajjad Hussain Bukhari along with a police team raided an illegal weapons’ shop in Gangal area of Koral.
Police recovered four pistols, four 12-bore shotguns, a carbine, a 32-bore revolver, and nine clips of different guns along with a large quantity of ammunition.
Police registered a case against the two men arrested from the shop.
Police said the suspects were being investigated for their links with other outlaws.
