3 water pumping stations closed
KARACHI:
Three major pumping stations of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board have been closed down due to power outages. This has led to water shortages in different areas of the city.
The electricity supply to K-2, K-3 and Old pumping stations, located in the north-east of Karachi, has been suspended since 10 am.
Water board officials said that the Karachi Electric Supply Company had shut down electricity for four hours due to a technical fault. Gulshan-i-Iqbal, North Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Lyari, Gulberg and Jamshed Town were deprived of water as a result.
The electricity supply resumed in the afternoon, after which water was supplied to these areas. However, officials said that two motors at the K-2 and K-3 stations are unable to function due to low voltage.
The board said that the affected areas will receive less water but the department will be able to manage in other areas as other pumping stations are still working.
