In the lock-up: Gangster, target killers and political activists arrested in separate raids

Five suspects involved in car theft were also caught.

KARACHI: Around 10 suspects including two alleged target killers were caught in separate raids on Monday.

The Landhi police claim to have arrested a target killer identified as Hassan Dilawar. According to SHO Malik Mazhar, they arrested the suspect while he was trying to flee the country. He added that Dilawar had foreign currency with him and had travelled to Malaysia, Thailand and Bangladesh before so they were fairly certain that he would try to do so again.

The SHO claimed that the suspect was involved in the clash between the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi and Awami National Party in Landhi 89 which killed over 10 people. He added that Dilwar was also involved in target killings in Zaman Town, Korangi Industrial Area, Sharafi Goth, Landhi and Ferozabad.

The authorities seized a Kalashnikov and repeater gun from him. They added that he was associated with a political party but did not disclose any further information.

In another part of town

The Shah Latif police claim to have arrested a political worker allegedly involved in over a dozen target killings. The suspect was identified as Maqbool Ahmed alias Maqbola and was arrested from Quaidabad after a brief encounter with the authorities.

According to SP Malik Altaf, the suspect was wanted in several cases including 12 target killings which were registered at the Shah Latif Town, Malir City and Khokhrapar police station. He added that Maqbola had also served time in jail.

Grand auto-theft

Nearly five suspects, including Ziaullah, Irfan, Asif and Omar were arrested in a raid carried out by the police. According to Crime Branch officers, the suspects were involved in car theft. He added that they used to smuggle stolen cars to different cities. The authorities claimed to have seized around one dozen cars from them. Sources claim that these men had stolen the car from a foreign consulate but DSP Irfan Bahadur said that an investigation was in progress and he could not confirm any details.

Lyari gangs

An alleged member of a Lyari gang was taken into custody by the Rangers in a raid conducted in Khadda Market. Sources claim that the suspect was an accomplice of Lyari gangster Taj alias Taju. He was taken to an undisclosed location for further investigation.

FIA in action

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said that it has arrested two men allegedly involved in money laundering. The suspects were identified as Laxman Das and Babu Lal. FIA officials have registered FIR No. 12/2011 against them.
